DAY ONE, 25 SEPTEMBER 2019

09:15-09:30      Opening remarks by Gilbert Monod deFroideville, Director of Protocol International and Mark Verheul, Former Chief of Protocol of the city of The Hague.

09:30-11:00      Introduction to protocol by Gilbert Monod

 ·   The history of protocol.

·   Difference between protocol and etiquette.

·   The different meanings of protocol and its role in the private and public sector.

·   Cultural awareness.

11:00-11:15      Break

11:15-12:30      Order of Precedence and the Applications of Protocol

·      What is an order of precedence? How is the order of precedence set at an international organisation or corporation?

·      Applications of protocol.

·      Seating arrangements: lunch/dinner or at ceremonies.

·      Greeting procedures, processions, receptions and cortèges.

Participants will learn to define in an interactive way the order of precedence, its usage and importance as a protocol tool, how to determine precedence of individuals, Heads of State, DiplomaticMissions, Delegation Visitors, country flags and how to apply seating strategies.

13:30-15:00      StrategicNetworking, part 1 by Mark Verheul

The participants will learn how to engage with internal and external stakeholders in order to reach the organisation’s goals and objectives. In that respect, the exact roles in event management are defined for the protocol officer, host and guest.

 The participants will learn how to engage with internal and external stakeholders in order to reach the organisation’s goals and objectives. In that respect, the exact roles in event management are defined for the protocol officer, host and guest.

DAY TWO, 26 SEPTEMBER 2019

09:15-11:00      The role of the Media and Security related to Protocol Management by Mark Verheul

Participants will learn what role (social) media plays in official events, the importance of media coverage or a press conference and the impact security might have nowadays in realising public events and ceremonies.

11:15-12:30    Management of Hospitality and Events

Participants will learn how to host an effective and memorable event – on any budget. How to make an eventmatter and how to prevent project management disasters?

 12:30-13:30      Luncheon

13:30-15:00      Applications of protocol: flags, logos and gifts

Participants will learn the appropriate way to display country flags, laws, customs and observances, how to determine flag and logo precedence. Learn to identify key elements to consider when selecting an appropriate gift and understand how culture affects the gift selection.

 15:00-15:15       Break

15:15-17:00       AdvanceStrategies

Participants will learn how to compose an advance team and to formulate a mission statement for an event or visit. They will learn the importance of a checklist and the preparation of an advance kit. A case study will give them insight in the aspects of an advance visit and how to set up a detailed programme.

 DAY THREE, 27 SEPTEMBER 2019

 09:30-10:30      Methods of influence

Participants will learn the content and differences of influence, lobbying and communication, and discover the typology of actors and their cultures in Brussels.

10:30-10:45      Break

10:45-12:30      Actions and tools of communication

Participants will learn the possible types of actions, of resources and strategies. The presentation of eleven channels and tools of communication with their strengths and weaknesses is an important aspect of the training.

 12:30-13.30     Luncheon

13:30-15:00     Providing information and maintaining coherence

Participants will learn the advantage to provide added value while discussing and influencing EuropeanInstitutions and other political bodies.

 15:00-15:15      Break

15:15-17:00      Which influence and communication actions?

Participants will think of forthcoming strategies on lobbying.
